#4 Can Millennials Change the World?
After attending the talk presented by Mr A.J Meenai from Ted x on the topic debating if Generation Y (Gen Y) can really change the world, i have concluded that millennials can indeed change the world. It is true that all the generations before has helped to shape the world that we are living in now and this is why people are debating whether millennials have the ability to handle the world that is rapidly changing every single day. While people are constantly finding answer to this question, some of the hot-blooded and passionate Gen Y are already making changes to the world.
Prior to the statement that i have mentioned at the paragraph above, here are the reasons and some examples of it. First and foremost, take Shama Kabani, for example. This forward-thinking millennial utilized social media to her advantage before the industry became the monster it is today. Kabani started her own social media marketing firm which is called Marketing Zen since the year 2009 when she was only 24 years old. The company that was launched with just $1,500 and is now a multi-million-dollar organization. Why? This is simply because she makes social media her business and speaking of which, this is undeniably the power of social media platforms.
Secondly, they make themselves the brand. Well this is not something new to the society today as there are a lot of Gen Y are entrepreneurial. For them, they like to create a job instead of looking for one and the way they did this is mostly through social media. For instance, Instagram. They build social followings and making themselves as desirable brands and by this, millennials are able to attract profit-making sponsorship opportunities. As we can see today in Instagram, there are many health, fitness and style millennial experts are having companies targeted them to share, use and post about their products as one of their way of promoting their products.
On the other hand, Gen Y are definitely are not waiting to do what they love to do. Take You-tuber for example, there are countless of successful You-tuber who started from scratch doing what they love, making small videos and entertaining the world. Now, they are internationally well known and some even have their tours around the world and living their absolute best. Furthermore, many of them are actually making profits out of it. For instance, Epic Rap Battles is one of the successful You- Tuber with more than 11 million subscribers. The stars of this channel have produced more than 50 episodes of their rap battle series and earned an estimated $2.4 million from their videos.
But whatever the reasons are, they are doing the works. I truly believe that each generation is equipped with the skills, talents and experiences they need to solve the challenges that they face. Just like generations gone before us, Gen Y are learning from the mistakes of the past and dreaming wildly about the kind of future we can create. Whether they are creating their own line of products or writing and publishing books or even contributing to the society, they are doing their best to change the world for the better. Millennials have some distinct values by which the generations before might not have and so, it's safe to say that they are doing things in their own ways which makes sense considering that the world today is not the same as the past. To conclude, we are the change we wish to see in the world, so if you can't see the changes, maybe it is time to become one.
